Hi. I stumbled across your page & had a question about SL Server & Server Preferences. I cannot access my Server Prefs anymore: Error msg: Unable to authenticate to Open Directory master. Computer record credentials could not be retrieved from System keychain. Or I’ve gotten this error message: “Unable to set node credentials for /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 with the record name server.mydomain.com$ There may be a problem with the Open Directory service.” I’ve changed the name of my server using the scutil command to no avail. My LDAP service is still using the “old” host name. Hum, I’m stumped. Would you please help me? I’m not sure how to fix this. Thank you so much. –Sincerely, Allen
Hello Allen,
I did have this problem a couple of times, and to solve it I had to fix the DNS service settings. It must be properly working and configured for the OpenDirectory service to work.
You need to set the hostname of your OD Server to the same Fully Qualified Domain Name that you used during the set up of the server as OD Master (because that name has been used to set the Server’s (Kerberos) Principal.
If for some reason you are not able to set the DNS service adequately, you can try to circumvent it by adding to the ‘hosts’ file of the server an entry that defines the association between its FQDN and its local network IP address.
All of that did work for me when I experienced the problem. I which it will do for you too.
Does any of this make sense to you?
Please let me know if you succeed. And give me some more details if you don’t.
Thanks for posting
