Few days ago Apple released the latest update for Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7 .
Here is the tutorial on how to install or update Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7 on the Asus Eee PC 1005HA Netbook.
Prerequisites
- MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.7.dmg
https://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1361/en_US/MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.7.dmg
- legacy_kernel-Mac_OS_X_10.6.6.tgz
https://marcomc.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/legacy_kernel-Mac_OS_X_10.6.6.tgz
Yes, you have no alluciantions: the legacy kernel we gonna use is the same prepared for Mac OS X 10.6.6, I tried and it works fine with 10.6.7 on the Asus EeePC 1005HA. I don’t know if it works on other hackintosh systems and netbooks. Please comment about your experience.
Step 1
Follow the instruction of my previous post:
How-To install Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on the Asus Eee PC 1005HA Netbook
following that how-to you can skip the part that let you update from Mac OS X 10.6.0 to Mac OS X 10.6.6 an substituite it with the following content of Step 2.
Step 2 (Upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7)
- Copy MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.7.dmg in the USB stick.
- Uncompress legacy_kernel-Mac_OS_X_10.6.6.tgz and to legacy_kernel-Mac_OS_X_10.6.6.pkg and copy it on the USB stick.
- Insert the USB Stick on the Netbook then mount and run the MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.6.dmg.
- When the installation is finished it will ask to restart:
DO NOT RESTART THE SYSTEM YET!! - Install ‘legacy_kernel-Mac_OS_X_10.6.6.pkg’.
This install an older version of the kernel that is still compatible with the unficcial extensions we previously installed before the upgrade. - Again, substitute the Extensions for the misbehaving devices:
- Copy ‘SleepEnabler.kext’ to ‘/Extra/Extensions/’.
This fix the hibernation/sleep feature. - Copy again ‘~/Desktop/SnowLeopardAsus/Extra/IO80211Family.kext’ to ‘/Extra/Extensions/’ folder.
This makes the system to recognize and install the Wi-Fi card. - Copy again ‘~/Desktop/SnowLeopardAsus/Kext/AppleIntelGMA950.kext’ to ‘/System/Library/Extensions/’.
- Copy again ‘~/Desktop/SnowLeopardAsus/Kext/AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext’ to ‘/System/Library/Extensions/’.
This fixes the video card and add the option to choose 1024×600 resolution.
- Copy ‘SleepEnabler.kext’ to ‘/Extra/Extensions/’.
- Now, most important, fire the command ‘fixkext’ with root privileges or using sudo:
$ sudo fixkext
- VERY IMPORTANT: Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permisions
Without this operation your system will reveal really unstable!!! - Now you can reboot the system
Now go back to:

Hi
I’d like to try on my Asus1000HE. I never realized 1024×600 is supported.
The links for all the Nawcoms files are broken. Can someone send me the files/link for the 10.6.6 files instructions page
Used Hazard 10.6.6i . Ran 10.6.7 update installed kernel. Best I can get is 800×600. Or just a grey screen when the 950 kexts load. ModUSB wouldn’t install to USB on G4 Powebook , or Chameleon. Had to use Hazard for now.

Thanks Jhonny, for the 10.6.8 solution. My 10.6.6 setup was useless after the update.
I used your entire kit (including the bootloader and kernel).
The only addition was to add SMBIOSResolver.kext. Also updated FakeSMC.kext to version 3.1.0. Fixed the Hybernation warning using the terminal commands.
So far, it is stable and everything seems to be working correctly (Fan, Power, Sleep/wake, WIFI, USB, etc).
Thanks again Jhonny. Also, thanks to Marco. And thanks to everyone involved in development.
Peace.

In the case of the internet, we now have understood it’s crucial to have a spotless universal world wide web brand in the ominous landscape you get with the world-wide-web….
Does the Fn+F7 hotkey work for anyone? The one to turn off backlight?
Dear marcomc,
your guides were the most useful and understandable of those that I found on the Internet. I’d like to ask you to update us with your new guide “How-To Update Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on the Asus 1005HA Netbook”. Thank you in advance.
Hi Gavar,
unfortunately I do not own an Asus 1005HA anymore (or another netbook) that said I do not have the chance to try and configure new versions of Mac OS X.
The advice I can give you is to look in OSx86.net and look for updated versions of the ‘legacy kernel’ to prepare a new installation image:
https://www.osx86.net/cat/12-kernels.html
I’m sorry that I cannot be more helpful than this.
Cheers
Hello Marco ! just one question : i’d like to install osx 10.6.7 on my netbook but i don’t really understand when you said that in step 1 i have to follow your how-to for install 10.6.6 !
because in this famous how to : i have first to install 10.6.0 !
so must i have to install 10.6.0 then update to 10.6.6 then update to 10.6.7 or can i just, on my netbook ( on witch there is just at this time W. seven ), install 10.6.6 then update to 10.6.7 ? ( the problem is that i can’t find an iumage of 10.6.0 dvd installation on my “google friend” )
so to be clear : can i follow the step of the ” how-to … 10.6.0″ but with a 10.6.6 dvd installation version ?
Thank you for your answer 🙂
Hi Mezacalito,
I never tried to install the system from a DVD installation with version 10.6.6 because the disc I have is just 10.6.0.
I’m not sure how the ModUSB software would work on a USB stick prepared with the Mac OS X 10.6.6 installation.
In any case, as I explain in the two post, if you want to go to 10.6.7, you can start the installation from 10.6.0 (following the first post) then YOU DON’T NEED TO UPGRADE TO 10.6.6., but just upgrade directly to 10.6.7 (following the second post).
is it a bit more clear now?
Please let me know your comments.
regards
Marco MC
yes this is more clear but my pb is to find a 10.6.0 DVD installation !
since mu closed, it’s difficult to find things like this ! if you have some links, i’m ok to try them for DL the 10.6.0 dvd Graal 🙂
thx for ur quick answer, and sorry for my bad english
best regards
Only advice is to check on torrents but I cannot give any link.
you could buy some used, cheap disc from ebay.
ok i understand 😉 thx for the idea to buy a used one on ebay : good idea !
have a nice day ! i’ll send my feedback asap.
Any input you can give me to fix the resolution on my Asus 1005HAB. I would highly appreciate it.
Thank you again for all your post and help.
Any system to upgrade this machine to 10-6.8? Some software doesn’t run on older versions
Thanks
Marco – you completely rock this tutorial is fantastic and I plan to take steps to make it happen on my 1005HA over the holiday weekend!
I would like to consider Win8 and SnowLeo dual boot… If I follow your instructions as mentioned, what tool – and where would you start the dual boot process?
Hi
I think I would start installing windows first so that after installing osx the hackintosh boot loader will recognise windows and offer the option to boot it.
Hello Marc, thanks for your great guide! is it possible update Asus 1005HA with 10.6.8 with the same procedure 10.6.7 …
thank you very much
please review the other replies..
